SNAG has traditionally been an acronym for Sensitive New Age Guy. But we talk about a slightly different type of SNAG – a SUPER new age guy. And there are plenty of SNAGs out there making a difference – they are driving change. Here is a list and a brief profile of some well known guys and the change they are involved with. (Note: There are obviously lots of ladies driving social change too, but this site is just about the SNAGs)

Bono – the U2 front man is a big advocate for social change. He supports Amnesty International, fundraising for AIDS through his RED online store and EDUN, an organic clothing company which drives sustainable employment in third world countries.

Pau Gasol - the Lakers big man who now has several NBA championship rings is also a big supporter of charity. He has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2003 and has made many trips in his off season to visit poor countries. In 2010 he was one of the featured spokesmen for the NBA raising money and awareness for AIDS.

Scott Harrison – he’s shot to prominence in the past few years after founding charity:water. It is a non-profit organisation that brings clean and safe water to people in developing nations. 100% of public donations go to funding water projects. Click here for more about charity:water.

Ryan Werner, Cam Lee and Clay Olsen – three guys who teamed up to create a not for profit called Fight The New Drug. They focus on educating youth about the additive and harmful potential of pornography. They are 3 guys out there making a difference and driving change in the world. Read more here.

Ron Artest – regardless of what he does on the basketball floor and how much of a nutcase he might be, there is no denying that Ron Artest is a super new age guy when it comes to social change. He has created a raffle to sell off his NBA championship ring – now that is commitment to a cause! He’s raffling it and not selling it to give every normal person a chance to win it. He’s donating the entire proceeds to fund mental health eduction and practitioners in public schools for young people. Just to top that he has also said that he’s donating half or all of his salary this year to charity. Whether or not you like his basketball team, Ron-Ron is definitely a SNAG for change!

LeBron James – he’s turned into a villain for many people – like the whole city of Cleveland and anyone who doesn’t go for the Miami Heat. And it can definitely be argued that he handled “The Decision” poorly. And it’s not quite as impressive as Ron Artest’s charitable feats. But let’s not forget that he set up “the Decision” as a way of raising money for the Boys and Girls Club of America. He also contributes to fundraising charity OneXOne.
